Nepali School |
The goal of the Atlanta Nepali School (ANS) is to promote Nepalese culture and heritage among the Immigrant Nepalese community in USA. School curriculum includes instruction in reading, writing, and verbal communication in Nepali as well as cultural education. We believe that improving our community’s knowledge and understanding of Nepali culture will help to keep our customs and traditions alive and help us to evolve as a distinct community in the US.
The School will be run by a dedicated and committed group of about eleven volunteer teachers.
This year being our pilot year we are extending our class until MAY. We have Summer off. In the future we are planning to have Spring and Fall Semesters.
Registration is still open.
Classes starts at 11.30 - 12.45PM
Snacks at 12.45 -

Frequently Asked Questions
Why attend the Nepali School?
As Nepali expatriates in Atlanta, many of us have
recognized a need for our children to connect to
their roots and culture. At the Nepali School we
will focus on education that will impart our children
a greater knowledge and appreciation of their cultural
heritage and language.
What is the school schedule?
Initially, the school will operate only on Sundays
beginning Sept 23rd, 2007. Classes will be scheduled
for 1 to 1.5 hours, 11:30 to 1:00PM. There will
not be any classes on Oct. 21(Dashin) and Nov. 11
(Bhai tika).
What is the nature of the course
and the curriculum?
Our main goal is teaching the kids to read and write
Nepali language. However, we will have a balanced
mix of lectures, discussions, short assignments,
and fun activities like dance & music, traditional
games, learning rhymes etc. In future, depending
on demand and availability of volunteer teachers
we can greatly expand our curriculum to add special
additional classes on religion & rituals, traditional
Nepali cooking, Nepali musical instruments etc.
What type of classes do you have?
We have the following categories of classes:
• Ages 3-4 (Nursery & Pre K group. The
kids will learn alphabet and Nepali rhymes and songs)
• Levels 1 - 4 (to be determined after interviewing
the child)
• Adult (beginner / intermediate).
Who are the current teachers?
Primary Teacher: Menuka Bista
Mrs. Bista is currently teaching at Gwinnett School
System and has plenty of experience running similar
project in Africa.

What will be the Cost?
In order to pay for the rental facilities and classroom
material we are currently charging a minimum amount
of $ 10 per child per month. We will greatly appreciate
any donations that will go towards buying school
supplies. In kind donations like snacks, party supplies,
school supplies, etc are also appreciated.
Will snacks/refreshments provided to the kids?
We would definitely like to provide refreshments.
But please note that our minimum fee of $ 10/child
will not cover this cost. However, since this is
a community effort, we plan on parents volunteering
each week for snack duty. Or we can pool money and
a volunteer can buy each week. We can discuss these
issues when the school starts.
Is there a place for parents to stay while
the classes are in session?
Sure, you can stay at the facility and volunteer
to help with the classes or socialize. Think of
this as a great opportunity to socialize and make
new friends. Depending on interest, we will be organizing
picnics, potlucks, grocery shopping trips, field
trips (zoo, aquarium, museums, fairs, etc.) for
the parents and the kids. It will be fun.
Where do I contact if I need more information?

right next to Doraville Police Station and across
the road from Doraville City Hall & Court House.
